Tips on How to Grill a Great Steak!

Prep -  As a rule we guys are not planners, but if you are going to grill a great steak you need to spend a few minutes in prep.  Remove your steaks from the refrigerator and allow them to warm up, 15-20 minutes.  Do not drop your steaks right from refrigerator onto your grill.  It is very difficult to cook steaks evenly if they are cold.

This is also a good time to give your steak a nice dry rub, if you so desire.  In my opinion a very tasty and simply one is McCormicks Montreal Steak - Grill Mates.

Cooking - Hot and Fast!   To cook the perfect steak you want to get your grill very, very hot.  Cook the steak 3-5 minutes on the first side, flip the steak and cook it 3-5 minutes on the other side.

DONE!

Remember what you mother told you?  Don't play with your food.  Now is not the time to be flipping and moving your steaks!

REST - Now for the most important part, don't serve your steak right away.   Let the steak "rest" for about 5 to 10 minutes depending on the thickness. This allows the juices to move back into the meat. Resting should be done in a place that is about room temperature and with only a loose covering over it.

If you doubt me, try cutting a steak in half right off the grill. Let a second steak rest for five minutes, and then cut into it. See which one is juicier.

Simple Steps for a great steak!

  • Allow your steak to warm before you cook it.
  • Cook it Hot and FAST!
  • Don't Play with your Food.
  • LET IT REST!

Next time: RIBS!
