Bully Be Gone- A bullying and suicide prevention program

Bully Be Gone is a K-12 program dealing with bullying and suicide prevention. For a presentation or further explanation, please feel free to write to irene@bullybegone.us

Genetics can be modified by environment.  An individual born with aggressive traits can be taught to channel his or her aggression in positive  ways.  Likewise, an individual with passive traits can be trained to respond assertively to negative  or potentially violent situations by following  safe procedures.

Self-defense doesn’t stop at physical protection. It is intrinsically threaded into our life patterns through assertiveness, awareness, self-esteem and ultimately, self reliance.

•Role playing and hands-on skill building can provide children with an opportunity to develop critical thinking skills, respect their instincts and cultivate assertiveness. •Assertiveness exercises and resolution skills increase the child’s ability to prevent abuse. Students  can learn to recognize, diffuse anger and de-escalate volatile situations. •Awareness and an assertive  response can prevent as much as 80%  of potentially dangerous situations.

Lack of training regarding the recognition of abuse and safe response can leave a child unprepared to defend themselves to an assault. Even the child that is physically challenged can learn to trust their instincts, think, and move to action  to protect themselves from harm.

Parents can't always be there when their child faces danger, but they can help protect their child by supplementing their knowledge of safety. The average child is vulnerable and the handicapped child even more so.
