'Buy America' Crosses Party Lines

In an age where Rebloodicans and Democrips bicker and squabble about whether or not they should say, "excuse me" when they fart, it seems as though one issue does not immediately polarize them. Buying stuff made in America. Apparently, there is a 'Buy America' idea floating around Washington, an idea that any American tax dollars must be spent on American-made goods.

"Nearly 9 out of 10 Republicans and Independents and 91 percent of Democrats said they support "Buy America" preferences, according to the survey,which was conducted by the Democratic-leaning Mellman Group."

These are just the kind of issues we need to be talking about. The arguements will go on for decades about abortion and gay marriage, immigration and gun control. Meanwhile, there are some no-brainers, some alley-oops if you will that we just have to move on if we're to move anywhere. This 'Buy America' idea is great, I hope the government buys into it. How cool would it be if we, the consumers, took the lead in this effort?

I believe it was the late John F. Kennedy that said, "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country". Let's take the lead in this, Americans! Let's beat the government to the punch on this one. We've just got to demand American-made goods. 

Here's a couple of easy ones. 

Pens.

Where the heck do you find pens made in USA? Haha! Pilot, makes pens in the United States. Maybe not every kind of pen but the Pilot EasyTouch retractable is made right here in good ol' Estatdos Unidos. If you go to the store to buy a pen and they don't have Pilot pens made in USA, get a manager. Tell them that you came there to buy a pen and because they don't have an American-made pen you are going someplace else. I guarantee you that manager will be falling over themself trying to appease you.

I recently did this at the Target near my house. I live in Florida. I live in the second largest citrus-producing state in the union. Yet somehow Target did not have an orange juice selection made from Florida oranges. Well, I got a manager and told them just what I told you to say in that previous paragraph. She gave me a comment card to fill out and apologized for not having it. I mentioned a brand that did use only Florida oranges and guess what? Within two weeks I began seeing that brand of orange juice on the shelf. I have a lot more to say about orange juice but that is for another story, er, blog.
