Grammar is a central component to my Language Arts curriculum. I enjoy the fact that I teach the difference between a grammatical phrase and a grammatical clause.
While I make grammar mistakes from time to time, I enjoy having grammar discussions with my colleagues. It excites me. Teaching grammar is challenging, but fun. I love pointing out the parts of the sentence to students and encouraging all of my students to remember the questions that adjectives and adverbs answer. Although I believe that grammar is cool, I totally understand there are few that mirror my sentiment.

I almost lost my mind when I heard the song “Love is a Verb” by John Mayer. WHOAH! Has grammar found its way to pop music? How exciting! The lyrics explore the idea that most consider “love” a thing, which would make “love” a noun. But, if you ever loved you would know that love is definitely an action, which would make it a verb. How awesome?
I wish that I could call John up and have a grammar discussion with him. I want to tell him that by saying “love is a verb,” the term “verb” is functioning as a predicate nominative and that is ironic because his point is not to make love a noun, but he is using a noun to describe the term. SUPER COOL!
