Making the Workplace 'Woman Friendly'

Are your female employees feeling as if they are valued in the workplace? Making the workplace woman friendly is more important than you may think!

Women today often lead difficult lives. In addition to juggling the responsibilities associated with taking care of the home, they also have to handle the responsibility of being successful in the workplace. As an employer, this information should be very important to you. Why? Without the right work environment, where a woman can feel included, valued, and on the road to a successful career, you may lose these employees and their valuable assets as well.

This is 2013 and we’ve come a long way from the days of wondering whether or not women belong in the workplace. As a business owner myself, I am well acquainted with the uphill battle we’ve come through. Just as men, women need a workplace culture where they can thrive, reach their true potential, and contribute. If the constant juggling of these responsibilities isn’t worth it, she’s going to head for the door. As a leader, you have to create an inviting and effective culture in which women (and men as well) are able to flourish.

Creating a Female Friendly Work Environment

  • Take a look at your company and determine where you might be succeeding, and failing when it comes to women in the workplace. How many women are at each level in your company? What are the turnover rates for women versus the turnover rates for men? If more women are heading for the door than men, or more women are at lower level positions than higher level ones, it’s time to rethink your strategies and discuss possible changes that could be made.
  • Use surveys and honest employee feedback to determine the level of engagement for all of your employees. Are women less satisfied with their Orlando jobs? Are men more open to participating in functions or groups than your female employees? There might be a reason behind this.
  • Understand the reasons why women aren’t engaged in their Orlando jobs. Maybe they don’t feel as if they have an equal opportunity to develop relationships with their superiors. Perhaps they haven’t been given a chance to experience more, or they don’t feel as if their jobs in Orlando challenge them or push them to succeed.
  • Inform your leaders and managers what you have discovered, and provide them with the training necessary to change their approaches and habits when it comes to leadership. Try not to focus on men or women during this training, because this would stereotypical, but instead focus on the different ways each individual in your company might approach tasks, learn, and succeed in their Orlando jobs. Make the time to sit down and discuss what the company can do to show their appreciation of all employees and improve retention, engagement, and results.
  • Be aware of the women in your company, and new employees that have been hired through Bradenton professional staffing services. Talk to them and coach them to speak up and be proud of the work they accomplish. Show them how to ask for more opportunities, and make sure they have the chance to see out new challenges often.
  • Hold your managers and leaders accountable, for both the women already working in your company and those you hire through Bradenton professional staffing services. Make sure they are listening to input from your female employees and don’t automatically choose a masculine point of view. Establish rewards for inclusive behaviors and consequences for exclusive behaviors that could result in women feeling like outcasts in the workplace.
  • Take note of each success and celebrate it.

Are your female employees feeling as if they are valued in the workplace? If not, there are some serious changes you need to be making or the women in your company are going to decide you aren’t worth the effort. Take these steps to create a workplace culture that is not only woman friendly, but empowering for women as well.
