School Bus Driving; Unsafe Driving on Bruce B. Downs?
Are your children being driven back and forth to school safely?
I was a school bus driver for almost 13 years in CT and I took my job very serious. Transporting children, or our "precious cargo" as we would call them, is a job many have no clue of what it all intales. So when I am traveling between Hillsborough and Pasco Counties and I see what I have seen, it makes me very glad that my own children are past high school!!
I have seen drivers speeding, going through red lights, closing their doors, which then turns off the red lights, before the child has crossed the road completly. In CT, with the transportation company I drove for, we were not allowed to go right on a red light, not even after a complete stop. And drivers not using their blinkers. Not only is this unsafe, but it's rude to other drivers, too.
Today at around 4pm I was going south on BBD (between Hunters Green and I-75) and saw a bus weaving back and forth between the lanes never using her blinker. I was shocked. I understand that all busses are on a schedule, but that is just unsafe driving and should be addressed.
Having moved here in January of this year, I chose NOT to drive school busses, as it's totally craziness out there and I rather like my life. I honor those that are and especially those that put the children that they are driving first and foremost in safety!!
Drivers in general seem to lack self care, never mind the care of others driving. But that is a whole other issue!! :)
