Hi, my name is Nigel. I am a Community Leader and I work at Walmart. What started as a part time job to make extra cash turned into an encouraging career for an ambitious teenager from a troubled Philadelphia neighborhood. I represent one of thousands in our community, our Tampa neighborhoods, that is grateful to have a job at Walmart, a job that rewards me each day.

For the last seventeen years, Walmart has provided me with countless job advancement opportunities, mentors and unique leadership training. They have taught me that beyond the Walmart mission is the responsibility to pass on the gift of leadership and help develop the people around you. At Walmart, its people first, and the people make the mission a reality.

From Philadelphia to Tampa, many managers and mentors have shared their gift of leadership to help me harness my potential. They believed in me, invested in me. And in turn, I do the same.

I’ve had the privilege of opening the first Neighborhood Market in Tampa, bringing an affordable grocery option to my neighbors. It gives me great pleasure knowing that the money they save by shopping at Walmart enables them to invest in themselves and their families in real and meaningful ways, like building their child’s college fund or paying for braces.

My story is not unique however. In fact, thousands around the U.S. can recount similar stories of optimism and opportunity, which inspired Walmart’s new advertising campaign and website (www.therealwalmart.com) that highlights how we help customers, provide career opportunities and deliver low prices.

Walmart believed in me. They believed I could make a difference, they gave me hope. And now, I am making a difference in my community, our community, each and every day.
