What Would You Like To Drink?

Another gathering around the bar to tell stories ...

As everyone's favorite bartender in Wiregrass, (my head is getting bigger as I type), I have recognized a pattern in the bar patrons that come in for a drink. It is not only my duty as a great bartender to remember who you are and what you are drinking, but to make sure you have a good time and stay safe.

Two older women walk up to the bar and ask for my finest Pinot Noir. They will probably have 1-2 glasses each and an appetizer and call it a night.

A young lady walks up to the bar and asks, "Can I see your wine list?" I know she will be having 3-4 glasses of something medium bodied and she might be in it for the long run. I'll keep an out for her surroundings.

Two older gentlemen walk up to the bar and ask for Johnny Walker Black on the rocks. They will probably smoke cigarettes and keep to themselves so I do not have to work very hard to keep them happy. Maybe I'll giggle at their old man jokes I don't really get but pretend to, (kidding).

Three younger gents and a young girl walk up to the bar. They are loud and rude and obnoxious, so I obviously ask for their Identification. "We come here all the time, why should we show you?" they ask. I respond with, "because you look like you are twelve and I do not want to go to jail. Also, I wanted to make you look lame in front of everyone else at the bar to keep you in check. Now, what would you like to drink young sir?"

They will proceed to order three Long Island Tea's. The Long Island Tea is made for two kinds of people. People from New York who have had a real Long Island Tea and know they can be delicious in moderation, (I learned the hard way), or young kids who think they are getting the most bang for their buck because there are 5 liquors in one cocktail. These young gents will continue to drink and switch back and forth from liquor and beer all night until they can no longer form words.

Will I cut them off? Absolutely. Will I call them a cab? Absolutely. Will I see them again next week and do it all over again? Absolutely.

We all come from different backgrounds. However, no matter our views, we can all meet together with the same intentions when we are talking over a well-poured drink.

Happy holidays! Drink responsibly.
