Wrapping Up Back to School Shopping
Everyone has last minute things to get for back-to-school, let's see how we fared at buying American.
I'm sure like most of you, I had a few last-minute things to pick up for my daughter's first day of school. Again, my endeavor buy American-made products took center stage.
1.) Alarm clock - Of course we are waking my daughter up but we felt compelled to buy an alarm clock for her. One store, one mission. I was at Target and after asking 2 employees, I found the alarm clock section. There were maybe a dozen choices but 2 of them were made in USA choices. I went with the Timex alarm clock. I spend $5 more than the cheapest one they had but it was well worth it to come away with a cool alarm clock that changes color when you tap it and it was not made by pseudo-slave labor.
2.) Socks and underwear - This was a tricky one. Apparel seems to me the most difficult to find made domestically. After sifting though Bealls Outlet, TJ Maxx, Ross, Marshalls, I don't even go inside Walmart, I was left with what Target had on the rack. Guess what, some reckognizeable brands are made domestically, or at least nearly. The girls socks that I found were made by Haines and in the USA! Fruit of the Loom is a close second being made in El Salvador and Guatemala primarily.

I had to grab some glue sticks and I have to concede defeat there. While Elmer's does make some of their glue domestically, I could not find glue sticks made in USA. RoseArt is all Chinese crap; you know those crayons that don't put any color on the paper when you use them. Anyways, I would love to hear everyone's experience in back-to-school shopping and if anyone knows where to get good American-made apparel, please let me know.
