
Update Oct. 16, 11:31 a.m.: Tampa Fire Rescue’s HAZMAT team has given the all-clear at the USF water treatment plant. The team ”entered the building containing the chlorine leak and verified that the automated system had worked properly to prevent further leakage,” an email to media stated.
The chlorine that leaked has dissipated and the area is now safe for repair crews to enter. The scene has been turned back over to USF officials.
No one was injured during the leak.

Earlier: Tampa Fire Rescue and its HAZMAT team are on the scene of a chlorine leak at the University of South Florida’s water treatment plant.
While the area around the plant has been cordoned off, fire officials say no classrooms or dorms have been evacuated at this time.
