Big Cat Rescue (http://bigcatrescue.org )is the largest accredited sanctuary in the world dedicated entirely to abused and abandoned big cats. Began in 1992, the sanctuary is situated on 55 acres in the Citrus Park area of north Tampa and is home to more than 100 exotic big cats including tigers, lions, leopards, cougars (the four-legged kind), bobcats, lynx, servals, ocelots, and caracals. They're here for a variety of reasons, everything from being abandoned by owners who wrongly thought they would make good pets, retired from performing acts, saved from being slaughtered to make fur coats and being rescued as babies after hunters killed their mothers.
