Help Bob Marley Documentary Get Shown at Muvico!

Forty tickets need to be sold by July 9 to make the screening a reality.

 

Interested in seeing a critically acclaimed documentary about the late reggae legend Bob Marley?

If so, you only have a few more days to make the screening a reality.

“Marley” will be shown July 23 at in New Tampa if 40 tickets are reserved by 11:59 p.m. July 9 (Monday). If that number is not reached in time, the screening will not take place.

The possible screening is the work of Gathr Films, which offers what it calls TOD, or Theatrical on Demand, Service. Movies that may not otherwise reach certain cities can be seen at local venues if someone requests a specific film and enough people reserve tickets ahead of time on the Gathr website.

“Marley” may be screened in New Tampa because someone from the area had requested it, said Gathr spokeswoman Stephanie Houghton.

Nineteen reservations have been made as of Thursday evening, with 21 more needed to go. Tickets are $10.

“It has been shown around the U.S., most of the major cities,” Houghton said of “Marley.” “I’m not sure why it didn’t come to Tampa.”

Released in April 2012, the documentary was directed by Kevin Macdonald, whose film “Last King of Scotland” won an Oscar.

“The definitive life story of the musician, revolutionary, and legend, from his early days to his rise to international super-stardom,” reads the description for “Marley.” “Made with the support of the Marley family, there is rare footage, incredible performances and revelatory interviews with the people that knew him best.”

The late Jamaican singer-songwriter, whose hits like “No Woman, No Cry” brought reggae to the world, had an impact on music that is felt to this day. He was awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously and the album “Exodus” was named album of the 20th Century by Time Magazine, according to Wikipedia.com.

“Marley” was made with the support of the Marley family. It has a 95 percent rating on the site rottentomatoes.com.

"Marley does what is probably the best possible job of documenting an important life,” wrote critic Roger Ebert.
