July 4 Weekend Citation Numbers in From Florida Highway Patrol

Hillsborough County stats show DUI arrests, as well as speeding and seat-belt violations.

The numbers are in, and the Florida Highway Patrol was busy during the July 4 holiday weekend.

During the heightened enforcement period between July 1 and July 4, an increased number of troopers were on the Sunshine State's roadways - including I-75 in New Tampa. Troopers working in Hillsborough County made three arrests for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol or drugs. They also cited 47 drivers for speeding and eight for failure to buckle up, according to the FHP.

Statewide, there were 90 DUI arrests, 3,257 speeding citations and 1,060 safety belt citations.

“Our troopers worked hard to help our residents and visitors have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend,” Col. David Brierton, director of the Florida Highway Patrol, said in a news release. “Motorists who operate their vehicles in an unsafe fashion are a danger that puts innocent lives at risk. The men and women of the Florida Highway Patrol did their part to identify the unsafe drivers and take the steps necessary to decrease that risk.”
