Musicians' Corner: Reveal Renew
New Tampa Patch puts the spotlight on a local hardcore band.
The members of Reveal Renew aren’t uppity when it comes to playing gigs. Like, at all. And there’s no judgment in that statement; they will say it themselves.
“We’ll play a house show, skateparks, a tiny little storage unit,” lead guitarist John Looz told Patch. “Usually the smaller the better because it’s more personal.”

The New Tampa five-piece formed about a year and a half ago. These musicians, who range in age from 18 to 24, play an adrenaline-infused brand of hardcore/rock, complete with screaming vocals and blazing guitars. Listeners can hear a sense of urgency in their music, and Reveal Renew’s "about" page on Facebook speaks to this: “Less talk. More rock," is all it says.
How do their mothers and fathers feel about their tunes?

“Our parents have been really supportive,” Looz said. “They actually enjoy it.”
All band members pitch in when it comes to the writing process. “I’ll come up with a riff or idea for song ... and I'll bring it to practice,” Looz said. “We’ll all collaborate and shape it into a song.”
For interested listeners, the group this week uploaded to Facebook their EP that was recorded by bassist Kenny Gil.
Four of the band’s five members are in school. When classes let out for the summer, Reveal Renew plans on touring north into the Mid-Atlantic states. Previously, they had only gone as far north as Atlanta.
“We have been trying to play as many shows as possible,” Looz said.
