New 'FroYo' Shop Comes to New Tampa
CherryBerry New Tampa threw open its doors last week.
Kathy Montoya is jazzed to be going to work everyday. After all, she runs CherryBerry New Tampa, a new frozen yogurt store that opened last week.
“It’s just such a fun atmosphere – it’s a treat shop!” she said. “It’s a fun gig.”
The “froyo” business sits at Highwoods Preserve Parkway near the Best Buy and Michael’s. The décor boasts vibrant colors, pleasant seating, WiFi access and televisions. It’s a place where customers can stay awhile, Montoya said.

“We want people to come … and have a good time,” she said. “We want people to feel comfortable.”
CherryBerry is do-it-yourself concept. Customers choose a cup, then fill it up themselves with as much yogurt as they want. Then, they finish it off at the toppings bar with fresh fruit, syrups or candies – or all of the above.

Yogurt flavors change on a regular basis, though 14 are available at any one time, Montoya said.
The price is 43 cents an ounce.
Another yogurt shop recently opened nearby on Preserve Walk Lane, but Montoya said she isn’t concerned. “It’s going to be good for all of us,” she said of competition. “Maybe it will bring business to both of us.”
Montoya moved to Florida from Utah to open CherryBerry, which is part of a chain (though this one is the first in the Sunshine State). “I always wanted to live in Florida,” she said.
Montoya, the general manager, partnered with her brother Jeremy Castro and two of his associates to open the shop. Owning and running a business is no easy task.
“It’s stressful but not a scary stressful,” Montoya said. “It’s an excited anxiousness!”
The shop features various discounts. They include:
- (Monday) Mommy and Tot Day: noon to 3 p.m.; children 5 and younger get 50 percent off with adult yogurt purchase.
- (Tuesday) Logo Day: all day; wear CherryBerry gear and receive 3 ounces free.
- (Wednesday) Happy Hour: 4-6 p.m.; buy one yogurt, get a second one 50 percent off.
