No Alcohol For Moviegoers at Muvico
City Council shoots down application for special permit to serve wine and beer.

New Tampa moviegoers looking for adult beverages with their summer blockbusters will have to trek out to Ybor City or Wesley Chapel for the time being.
That’s because the City Council today shot down Muvico’s application for a Special Use Permit allowing the sale of beer and wine at , 18002 Highwoods Preserve.
The beverages would have been sold during operating hours until 3 a.m.

Grace H. Yang, the lawyer for Muvico, did not return a call seeking comment, but the applicant has a month to appeal the vote in court. With litigation a possibility, City Councilman Charlie Miranda would not elaborate on the “no” vote. The governing body had previously voted in favor of the application on first reading.
“I voted against it the first time, and I voted against it today,” Miranda told Patch, addressing his own consistency on the issue.

Some of the concerns were the lateness of a 3 a.m. time and a question of whether Muvico would be able to prevent underage patrons from getting their hands on beverages.
As it now stands, moviegoers who want alcohol must go to Cobb Theatres Grove 16 in Wesley Chapel or Muvico’s Centro Ybor location.
