Pride Elementary's 5K Raises Funds, Promotes Healthy Lifestyle
The 5K run/walk and one mile fun run will be held on Feb. 4.

Lace up your sneaks; it’s time for the seventh-annual Run With Pride 5K and one-mile fun run.
“The main purpose of the race is to involve as many children as possible — not only from Pride (Elementary) but other schools too — in an exciting, fun-filled event to have a greater understanding of the importance of a healthy lifestyle,” said Karla Gorsky, race director.

The run/walk will be held 8:30 a.m. Feb. 4 at , 10310 Lion’s Den Drive. Best Buy has signed on as the title sponsor. All proceeds go directly to the teacher’s fund, which allows teachers to purchase classroom items, Gorsky said.
“We also earmark some of the money to purchase some much-needed physical education equipment,” she said, adding about 500 runners and walkers are expected this year.

About 40 percent of last year’s participants were Pride families, Gorsky said. She describes the course as “very fast," attracting some of the area’s elite runners.
The cost is $25 for the 5k, $12 for the one-mile fun run and $65 for a participating family. Awards will be given to top finishers.
