School Board Recognizes Effort to Thwart Freedom High Bomb Plot
Cooperative effort between school members and police led to recent arrest of Jared Cano, an expelled student who allegedly had detailed plans to blow up Freedom High School.

School board members are grateful to those involved in avoiding potential disaster at Freedom High School on the first day of school.
Tampa Police Major John Newman, Manager of School Security Services David Friedberg and Freedom High School Principal Chris Farkas were scheduled to appear at today's 3 p.m. meeting of the school board to be honored for their efforts.

Through an anonymous tip on Aug. 16, Tampa police learned that expelled student Jared Cano was planning to carry out acts of violence at Freedom on the first day of school. TPD worked with school security services and with the administration at the school.
Within hours, they learned that Cano had a very specific plan of violence and destruction, and that he apparently had the means to carry out his plan. Before the end of the day, .
