UPDATE: Single-Vehicle Crash Kills Teen Driver

The incident occurred shortly after midnight in New Tampa. The driver has been identified as William Gallagher, 19, of Wesley Chapel.

A single-vehicle crash killed a 19-year-old Wesley Chapel man and injured at least one of his two passengers.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight in New Tampa on Wild Tamarind Drive. According to a release from Tampa Police, William Gallagher, of Point O Woods Drive in Wesley Chapel, crashed the 1998 Honda he was driving. The Honda rolled, and Gallagher was pinned underneath it after being partially ejected, investigators said. Gallagher died at the scene.

Passenger Charles Trimble, 16, was taken to Florida Hospital for non-life threatening injuries while fellow rider Camron Davis, 21, fled the scene, police said.

Officials are continuing to investigate the crash but they say speed appears to a factor.

Wild Tamarind Drive is at the K-Bar Ranch subdivision near the Pasco County line.

According to the Pasco County School District, Gallagher was a 2010 graduate of Wiregrass Ranch High School.
