Stephany Brown and The Great Wall of Wharton
Senior Stephany Brown, of Wharton High School Volleyball's Lady Wildcats, is one of the team's top defenders.
Senior Stephany Brown is much of the reason why Wharton controls its own destiny within District 7, much of the reason the Lady Wildcats are 17-3 so far this year.
Brown not only leads her team with 59 blocks as of earlier this month, she is third in Class 8A. Her blocks per game average of 1.2 is second best in 8A.
"Blocking is my favorite way to score a point; it's the best feeling to shut down a kill shot," Brown said.

She has had plenty of time to hone her technique. Brown is a three-year varsity player, four years on the team. She also plays with The Tampa United Volleyball Club.
"I think I've come a long way since my freshman year," Brown said. "I'm really good at reading the setter now."

At about 6 feet, and with a formidable vertical leap, she presents a prominent wall when she elevates. When she and 5-foot, 11-inch junior put up a wall together, it is daunting indeed.
"Caci and I have a fun rivalry going," Brown said. "I root for her, she roots for me, we're able to push each other."
