USF Student Critical After Pedestrian Crash
The accident happened Thursday morning along 50th Street.

A 19-year-old University of South Florida student is in critical condition following a pedestrian accident along 50th Street Thursday morning.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Elizabeth Courtney was crossing 50th Street at Sun Ridge Palm Drive, in the crosswalk, when the crash occurred. A Nissan Altima driven by Ernest Washington, 30, of Tampa was heading south on 50th Street form Fletcher Avenue at the time. His vehicle struck Courtney, the sheriff’s office said in an email to media.
Courtney was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital in stable, but critical condition.

Washington has been cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian within a marked crosswalk.
