Wharton High Student Arrested in Stabbing

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's office, a 15-year-old boy stabbed another several times with a steak knife Thursday.

TAMPA, FL — A 15-year-old Wharton High School student faces multiple criminal charges after Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies say he stabbed another boy with a steak knife Thursday afternoon.

The incident began to unfold on the Wharton campus, 20150 Bruce B. Downs Blvd., around 2 p.m., deputies say. The boy and a 14-year-old student first got into a verbal spat, but the fight became physical, deputies said.

According to an email from the sheriff’s office, the 15-year-old armed himself with a steak knife he had in his possession and “stabbed the victim multiple times causing non-life threatening injuries.”

The teen is then accused of trying to hide the knife in a trash can in a nearby boys’ bathroom, the email said.

The 14-year-old boy injured in the stabbing was taken to Tampa General Hospital with injuries that are not life threatening, deputies say. The 15-year-old was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, tampering with evidence and possession of a weapon on school grounds.

No further information is available. Patch is not releasing the names of the two boys involved because of their ages.
