📰 News we're reading

1. Never-before-seen interrogation video played in Orlando Halloween mass shooting trial (wesh.com) — Jurors in downtown Orlando have now seen interrogation video of the teen accused in the Halloween mass shooting that killed two people and injured several others. Testimony from survivors, crime scene experts, and FDLE analysts linked shell casings and DNA to the defendant, while the victim's mother says she forgives him but wants a life sentence and accountability as the trial resumes Monday.

2. Orlando testing new pavement to help keep pollution out of Lake Arnold (mynews13.com) — Orlando is about to rip up parts of Strathmore Drive and Dover Street near Lake Arnold to test pervious pavement that lets stormwater soak through instead of rushing into the lake. The $1.3 million pilot, backed partly by a state grant, will compare several pavement types and track whether they cut pollution so the city can decide if this approach should expand to other Orlando streets.

3. Nonilon Alido Fallaria (orlando-news.com) — An 84‑year‑old Army veteran and retired optometrist passed away in Orlando on August 12, surrounded by his children, including a daughter who lives here. Though his funeral will be held in Enterprise, Alabama, his life's journey—from the Philippines to U.S. military service and deep family and faith—touches loved ones in Orlando and beyond.

4. One year after Pulse crosswalk repaint, Orlando protesters continue chalking (mynews13.com) — In Orlando, protesters are still chalking the Pulse memorial crosswalk a year after the state ordered its rainbow design painted over and other colorful crosswalks removed. Activists, including one arrested at the site, and Commissioner Patty Sheehan say they'll keep pressing the state and hope a future governor will allow the rainbow crosswalk to return.
