1. Libby Holcomb (orlando-news.com) — Orlando residents are remembering Esta Elizabeth "Libby" Holcomb, 98, a longtime homemaker, church volunteer and sorority member who passed away on August 31. Family and friends can attend visitation, funeral, and committal services on September 9 at Woodlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home and Cremation Gardens in nearby Gotha.
2. Police investigate developing situation at Orlando plaza (wftv.com) — Police have cordoned off parts of a plaza at Bumby Avenue and East Colonial Drive in Orlando as they investigate an unclear incident, drawing a visible response Saturday afternoon. Officers have not yet released details, but the area remains sectioned off while Channel 9 and others await updates from Orlando Police.
3. Dazzling Nights returns to Harry P. Leu Gardens with new displays (wftv.com) — Orlando families can look forward to Dazzling Nights returning to Harry P. Leu Gardens from Nov. 20 through Jan. 3, transforming the gardens into a mile-long holiday light experience. Expect new large-scale displays, performances, interactive areas and themed environments, with timed-entry tickets starting at $35 for adults and $33 for children.
4. Ramp closures scheduled for I-4 and SR 417 near Disney World in September (wftv.com) — Orlando-area drivers heading near Disney World should prepare for overnight ramp closures on I-4 and SR 417 between Sept. 8–9 and Sept. 13–14, affecting access to World Drive and U.S. 192. The work involves ramp construction and bridge demolition, with detailed detours using Celebration Avenue, Griffin Road, and World Drive to keep traffic moving.
5. Griezmann goal, defense lead Orlando City to 1-0 win over San Diego (orlandosentinel.com) — Orlando City fans saw their team secure a 1-0 home win over San Diego FC, with Griezmann scoring and the defense earning its first clean sheet in eight games. The victory strengthens Orlando's push for an Eastern Conference playoff spot and came on an emotional night as goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau was supported following his father's recent passing.
