A Chance for Dropouts to Get Their Diploma

A walkthrough of how to study for your GED tests if you are a high school dropout.

In this increasingly competitive work environment, anything you can use to get ahead, you should. Unfortunately, if you don’t have a high school diploma, your opportunities won’t be as high as those that do have a high school diploma. But, just because you dropped out when you were a teenager doesn’t mean you don’t have the opportunity to attain that high school diploma as an adult. Here’s how to get a high school diploma after dropping out:

  • Get Your GED

A GED, which stands for Graduate Equivalency Degree, is your only way to go if you want to have a high school diploma after dropping out. Getting your GED involves passing a series of test that prove if you have a high-school level education in Language Arts Writing, Language Arts Reading, Social Studies, Science, and Math. If you can pass these five tests, you will earn you GED, which is just as good as a high school diploma. This is your only way to get a high school diploma equivalent, but there is more than one way to tackle passing these tests.

  • In-Person GED Prep Courses

If you’re learning needs to take place in-person, you’re only option is taking a GED prep course. These courses will take place at a local high school or rec center once or twice a week. They will last six to eight weeks or as long as a term takes to complete. Due to the sparsity of classes, you will need to come in with a cursory amount of knowledge in the five subjects you will be taking classes in. These classes should serve as a way to fill in the information you missed and re-establish the information you may have lost over time.

  • Online GED Prep Courses

The online courses are more for people who want to control the pace of their studying. You’ll be able to dictate what you learn and what you can avoid. If you feel you have Science down pat, you can spend more time on the other subjects you aren’t as versed in. There are online courses available, much like the ones you would take in person. But, I’d suggest pursuing an online tutor. There are many sites available to help you through your studying. I’d suggest SolutionInn. They have an expansive network of tutors available to work you through your preparations for the GED tests.

So, if you’re looking to get a high school diploma equivalent, a GED is your only option. But, there are many ways to go about getting it, so you can improve your resume in this fraught economical time.
