New Local Water Safety Collaboration
Goldfish Swim School Winter Park partners with Audubon Park School to provide swim lesson scholarships, water safety instruction to students

Water safety is a topic that impacts all families in Central Florida and Goldfish Swim School Winter Park is committed to educating as many families in the community as possible on how to be safer in and around water. The Goldfish Swim School Winter Park team is pleased to announce a new partnership with Audubon Park School that will provide both swim lesson scholarships and water safety instruction to local kindergarten students.
As part of this new initiative to bring water safety education and instruction to more Winter Park-area families, Goldfish Swim School Winter Park has committed to provide swim lesson scholarships (for eight consecutive 30-minute swim lessons, one lesson per week) to a select group of kindergarten students every year through 2025. These students will be teacher nominated, with criteria for selection based upon factors such as participation in free or reduced lunch assistance, students from families with financial hardship where there is no access to swim lessons, etc.
Seventeen kindergarten students will receive scholarships from Goldfish Swim School Winter Park in 2020. In addition to providing swim lesson scholarships, Goldfish Swim School Winter Park will provide additional benefits to the scholarship recipients including free family swim so students and their families can practice what they learn in lessons.

In March of 2020, Goldfish Swim School Winter Park will present several Water Safety Presentations at Audubon Park School to all kindergarten and 1st Grade students to jumpstart this partnership. Danielle Stevenson, Elementary Guidance and Instructional Support Staff Member at Audubon Park School shared, “Audubon Park School is excited to engage our kindergarten students in water safety and instruction through a partnership opportunity with Goldfish Swim School.”
Over the past two years, Goldfish Swim School Winter Park has made a significant impact in spreading water safety and swim lesson education to Central Florida families. Efforts include: (1) Over 4,700 children enrolled in swim lessons (2) Over 80 free community water safety presentations reaching over 3,500 children and (3) presence at 100+ community events. However, their team is always looking for opportunities to reach more families, especially those who may not have access to swim lessons.

“Florida leads the country in child drownings every year. We are committed to changing this statistic. Our Goldfish Swim School Winter Park location has truly been welcomed and embraced by families as a resource for swim lessons and water safety. We love seeing so many children come to our pool each week to learn this life-saving skill. But we know that we can do more to bring water safety to additional families in the area. The swim lesson scholarships being offered in partnership with Audubon Park School are the next step in our efforts to bring critical water safety info to as many Central Florida families as possible,” says Gina Thomas, owner of Goldfish Swim School Winter Park.
