Why You Should Consider an Online Tutor

A case for why struggling students should consider using an online tutor, including a personal anecdote about how online tutoring helped me.

Science has never been for me. I would spend hours upon hours dug deep into textbooks and online study guides. But, no matter if it was chemistry, biology, or physical science, I would never be able to escape the bottomless pit of mediocrity. That was until I caved in and opted for some online tutoring. I felt shame going to a tutor in person, as it was an admittance of my folly. So, I went to an online tutoring platform, signed up for a free trial, and got hooked up with a tutor. Almost immediately, she suggested a video call. Despite my nervousness, I accepted, and we did the video call. My cautiousness quickly dissipated, as the conversation had little to do with my deficiencies and more to do with connecting on a personal level. I felt immediately connected to her as she eased me into a study plan.

Before long, my tutor provided me special study materials available on the tutoring website, as well as some studying materials I had already been using, and used these materials to craft an ingenious study plan. The plan took a bit to take root, but before long, I could see the results. My grades were gradually increasing. I hadn’t become an aficionado over night, but things were steadily increasing in a positive direction.

If you are in a similar situation to the one that I was in, I would suggest doing that I did and trying out some online tutoring. By signing up for online tutoring, you get access to specific resources based on the site you sign up with, including case studies, answers guides, practice tests, etc. The real advantage of signing up with one of these sites is the access to the tutors, though. Rather than struggle through school without help or opting for an in-person tutor, which comes with a unique set of awkwardness, you can use an online tutor that helps you by working at your pace and preferences. If you don’t want to do a video call, don’t. If you want to take a day off from studying, go right ahead. Everything is based around what you desire. This takes the pressure off. Without that pressure or shame associated with in-person tutoring, you are in a better position to succeed.

Although using a service that you have no experience with doing something you’ve never done may seem scary, I promise you, it’s not. My concerns were put to ease immediately after I started. Not everyone will have that experience and not everyone will be able to learn this way. But, if you’re struggling, it’s worth a shot on a free trial.
