Police Charge Foreign Exchange Student, Host in Sex Case

CUTLER BAY, FL — Miami-Dade Police arrested a former female foreign exchange student from Spain and her former host in connection with an alleged sexual assault in which the woman allegedly tricked her own underage sister to participate in a phony medical exam followed by a string of other sex acts. Investigators fear that there may be other victims. Police are urging anyone that has been in contact with the couple to come forward.

The 50-year-old Leary and San Jose were charged with multiple sex offenses. The victim was reunited with her parents in Spain.

"According to investigators, the subject, Dale Leary, was a sponsor for students that are part of an international educational exchange program," explained Detective Argemis Colome of the Miami-Dade Police Department on Tuesday. Colome said that Leary hosted Marta San Jose in his home in 2012 when she was a 16-year-old foreign exchange student. Leary divorced his wife and married San Jose when she turned 18.

Miami-Dade police said that the girl's parents had no idea that their daughter had wed her former host when they sent their other 14-year-old daughter to the Miami area in June of 2014 to accompany San Jose back to Spain.

"After the victim arrived in Miami, she learned that her sister and Dale were married," police told Patch. "Marta San Jose manipulated her sister into believing that she may have been molested as a child. Marta persuaded her sister to allow Dale to conduct a vaginal examination, claiming that Dale would be able to determine if she had been sexually assaulted. The victim agreed to the examination and Dale digitally penetrated her vagina."

Police said that was just the beginning of the sexual acts involving San Jose's younger sister.

"Marta and Dale engaged in sex in the presence of the victim several times," according to police. "They would have her remove her clothing and Dale would digitally penetrate her. On more than seven different occasions, Dale performed oral sex on Marta, then on the victim, and in return he would make both sisters perform oral sex on him."

The young victim told police that Dale photographed some of the sessions while he and Marta gave the younger sister alcohol and got her drunk.

"Once she was intoxicated, they had her remove her clothing and wear high heels," police said. "Dale then began to photograph the victim in different poses, in the presence of her nude sister, who also participated. In some of the poses, Dale had the sisters hug causing their breast to touch."
