4 Tips for Preventing Mosquito Bites
Enjoying the Florida weather often means encountering mosquitoes. Here's how to protect yourself.

Now that the weather is cooling off, it's a great time to enjoyΒ outdoor activities in Palm Harbor. However, being outdoors in Florida often means coming into contact with one of the state's 80 mosquito species.
The Pinellas County Health Department offers these tips for avoiding mosquito bites:
- Dress appropriately.Β Wear a long-sleeve shirt, pants and socks to protect your skin.
- Avoid being outdoors at dawn and dusk,Β when mosquitoes are most active.
- Use mosquito repellent with DEETΒ if you must be outdoors.Β Before you buy, find outΒ how long various brands of mosquito repellent last.Β Read the instructions on the packaging for information on how to apply the product safely.Β
- Every week, drain containers around your homeΒ that hold a quarter-inch or more of water, such as birdbaths, gutters and flowerpots. Mosquito eggs can hatch in as little as six days.
