For today’s middle school students, September 11 is largely a part of history rather than a personal memory. The contest provides an opportunity for young people to learn about the events of September 11 and consider what they mean to their generation—and to future generations.

The annual contest is an important part of Curlew Hills’ ongoing commitment to honoring the heroes and victims of September 11 and ensuring future generations never forget the historical day.

As the 25th anniversary approaches, Curlew Hills hopes to encourage students to look beyond the date and the historical facts and consider a simple but important question: Why should we remember?

The answer will be different for every student—and that is what makes their voices so important.
