Lest We Forget

Dateline - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, December 15, 1791 

• The second amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America was ratified today.  
• The amendment reads as follows: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

Dateline - The Bronx, New York February 22, 2012

• Boy, 8, Is Shot by a Passing Bicyclist in the Bronx.
• An 8 year old boy standing outside of a convenience is shot a wounded.
• Why did we fail to protect the unalienable rights of this child - of this 8 year old boy?  Does he not have the right to be in public, does he not have the right to pursue our dream of, life, liberty and happiness?

Dateline - Chicago, Illinois February 22, 2012

• A 13 year old girl dragged into a alley at gunpoint and sexually assaulted. 
• Why did we fail to protect the unalienable rights of this child - of this 13 year old girl?  Does she not have the right to be in public, does she not have the right to pursue our dream of, life, liberty and happiness?

Dateline - Baltimore, Maryland, February 22, 2012

• Customer shot during robbery at Hamilton Royal Farms.
• Two masked armed men shot and wounded a customer at a convenience store. 
• Why did we fail to protect the unalienable rights of the customer of this store?  Did the customer not have the right to pursue, life, liberty and happiness?

Dateline - Detroit, Michigan, February 21, 2012

• Detroit baby killed in a spray of gunshots.
• Early Monday morning a nine month old baby was killed while sleeping on the sofa in his parent’s home.The apparent cause of death dozens of bullets fired from an AK-47. 
• Why did we fail to protect the unalienable rights of Delric Waymon Miller IV?  Did young Mr. Miller not have the right to pursue, life, liberty and happiness?

Dateline - Tucson, Arizona, January 10, 2011

• Girl Killed in Arizona Shooting Spree Was Born on 9/11, Loved Being Symbol of Nation's Hope
• Christina-Taylor Green was murdered, along with five others including a Federal Judge, by a gunman reportedly using a 9 mm  Glock 19 semi-automatic pistol with a 33-round magazine.  In total twenty people where injured, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
• Why did we fail to protect the unalienable rights of  Christina-Taylor Green and the others who fell to this gunman’s assault?  Did young Ms. Green, and the others in Tucson, not have the right to pursue, life, liberty and happiness?

Before you are tempted to say this happens up north or somewhere else do not forget David Crawford.

• Officer Crawford, a Saint Petersburg, Florida police officer, fell in the line of duty to a gunman.
• Can we not reasonably regulate “the right of the people to keep and bear arms” so we reduce these repeated violent attacks on our body politic?
