Daylight Savings: Move Clocks Forward & Replace Batteries

Put these tasks on your "to do" list Saturday: Move your clock forward one hour and change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

Daylight savings begins Sunday, March 11.

In addition to moving your clock forward one hour before you go to bed Saturday night, you should also replace the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) saysΒ fresh batteriesΒ allow smoke and CO alarms to do their jobsΒ saving livesΒ by alerting families of a fire or a buildup of deadly carbon monoxide in their homes.

CPSC says two-thirds of fire deaths occur in homes where there are no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.Β Β Here are some scary statistics. CPSC estimates there was a yearly average ofΒ 386,300 residential firesΒ resulting in nearlyΒ 2,400 deathsΒ between 2006 and 2008.
