Community Activity Center Gets a Makeover

Renovations at the Palm Harbor Community Center will improve efficiency and service to the community.

Although the lobby of the Palm Harbor Community Activity Center, 1500-16th St., might look like a hard-hat construction zone right now, the changes underway will make the center more efficient and enjoyable for patrons, says Erica Lynford, Director of Palm Harbor Parks and Recreation.

"This year marks a new direction for us as we remodel to better serve residents of all ages," according to Lynford. "We will continue to provide flexible and convenient event and meeting places in safe and inviting environments. Our renovation will allow us to do that more efficiently while supporting our mission of serving the Palm Harbor community with affordable, enriching programs.”

Key features of the renovation include moving the popular from its current location to where the lounge had been, moving the lounge to the area previously occupied by the front desk/check-in area and turning the former thrift shop space into much-needed work room for recreation leaders who plan and direct programs at the Center and the various parks and fields.

The Center remains open during the first phase of the renovation, which is expected to be completed by April 1. Additional renovation will take place at the Center and other PHREC facilities through the remainder of the year. Updates will be posted on the PHREC Facebook page.
