East Lake Library Reduces Hours Due to Budget Cuts

The new hours begin Monday, July 2.

The East Lake Community Library will be open five fewer hours a week because of budget cuts.

"We thought long and hard about making the least impact on people," said Patricia Perez, East Lake Library Director.

The reduced hours are temporary. Perez says they'll take another look at the budget and the hours in September. The new schedule will result in a 6% reduction in personnel wages from the last fiscal year, according to a proposal submitted to the library's governing board, the Palm Harbor Community Services Agency.

The new schedule officially begins July 1, which is a Sunday, a day when the library is normally closed. The new hours will actually begin impacting library patrons on Monday, July 2.
