Learn How to Strengthen Your Body and Mind with Pilates
Local Pilates studio offers a unique opportunity to learn a century-old fitness system that over 11 million people in the United States practice.
If you are looking for a way to strengthen not only your body, but also your mind, Pilates may be the answer. At in Palm Harbor, nationally certified instructors Renee Harris and Shari Hinkle will guide you through this fitness system designed in Germany by Joseph Pilates during the 20th century.
Pilates focuses on several principles to achieve full body balance. According to Harris, owner of Core Pilates, these principles include: mind over matter, breathing, centering, concentration, control and precision.
The philosophy of Pilates is centered on the development of the core. “While flexibility and strength building of all muscle groups is accomplished, there is special emphasis placed on those muscle groups that support the bodies’ core, including the pelvis, abdomen, and spine," explained Harris. “The exercises are designed to promote body awareness so that motions throughout the day including sports are performed in the most fluid natural way which helps prevent injury.”

The Core Pilates studio offers trainees the highest level of Pilates equipment available including the cadillac, reformer, and wunda chair to strengthen the body’s core and increase flexibility. Mat exercises are also taught during training sessions.
“Core Pilates is a uniquely different experience from standard athletic training,” said Harris. “Not only does resistance change but the entire exercise program is adapted to the individual. While advanced exercise routines would be challenging to even the most polished athletes, introductory training techniques are perfect for the first timer as well. Our small size is conducive to maintaining focus on the individual and client privacy.”
