If Sheriff's Capt. Brian Browne Calls You, Hang Up

Pinellas County Sheriff's detectives are encouraging the public to be alert to a recent phone scam occurring in Pinellas County.

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — Pinellas County Sheriff's detectives are encouraging the public to be alert to a recent phone scam occurring in Pinellas County.

Detectives were first notified of the phone scam on Sept. 20 involving a person identifying himself as Capt. Brian Browne with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

According to detectives, Browne often knows the name of the person called or a family member's name and address. He tells the resident they have an outstanding warrant. He tells them he can be reached at (727) 431-9465 or pcso.judicial@mail.com, and they should send money to avoid being arrested.

Detectives said there have been multiple incidents targeting residents.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office will never call residents requesting money over the telephone. Detectives advise residents to not give personal information or account information over the phone, and call the Sheriff's Office to report a call.
