Learn About Labor in Florida at Your Palm Harbor Library
Palm Harbor Library Press Release
It’s not all just fun in the sun in Florida! Come learn about the history and future of labor in Florida on Saturday, October 18 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. All types of Floridians (male and female, black, white, and Hispanic) have toiled in Florida for centuries and have made the state what it is today.
The program will be presented by Dr. Steve Noll of the University of Florida. He will take us from the early Spanish days, through slavery and agriculture, to today’s service industries. Dr. Steven Noll received his Ph.D. in 1991 in American History from the University of Florida. He joined the University of Florida’s Department of History in 1992. He has published three books: Feeble-Minded in our Midst (1995); Mental Retardation in America (2004); and, most recently, Ditch of Dreams: The Cross-Florida Barge Canal and the Struggle for Florida’s Future (2009). Dr. Noll teaches American History survey courses as well as courses on the Gilded Age and Progressive Era, the History of Disability in America, and Florida History.
