New Girl Scout Cookie Debuts

The "Savannah Smiles" cookie will make its debut this year in honor of the Girl Scouts' 100th anniversary.

Fans of Girl Scout cookiesΒ will soonΒ have another option when it comes to the sweet treats with the rolling out of "Savannah Smiles," a lemon-flavored cookie that is dusted in powdered sugar. It is named after Savannah, the city in which Juliette Gordon Low founded the Girl Scouts in 1912.

Girl Scouts in our area are now taking cookie pre-orders through Jan. 27. Girl Scouts will begin selling their cookies at booths on Friday, Feb. 24. Cookie booth sales will end Sunday, March 18.

Beginning Feb. 24, you can search for a Girl Scout cookie booth in your neighborhood by entering a zip code on the "Cookie Booth Locator" on the Girl Scouts website.

"Girl Scout Cookies aren't only delicious treats, the Girl Scout Cookie program is the largest financial literacy program for girls in the U.S. While we're enjoying delicious cookies, Girl Scouts are learning about goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics," saysΒ Susan Barnes,
Director of Communications for theΒ Girl Scouts of West Central Florida.

If you want to support the Girl Scouts but don't want to eat the cookies yourself, you can buy the cookies and have them donated to our military troops who are serving in combat zones overseas. The "Cookies from Home" program is made possible through a partnership with "Support Our Troops." Donations to the Cookies from Home program can be made in person through a Girl Scout through March 18.
