Update: Vegetable Oil Spill on Tampa Rd.
Remember that crazy breaking news story about the vegetable oil spill in Palm Harbor Saturday?

Some of you wondered if Saturday's spill may have been caused by a vehicle crash.
We did some checking and found out that a crash was not connected with the vegetable oil spill, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

According to spokesperson Cecilia Barreda, the sheriff's office was notified about the spill around 11:15 a.m. Saturday.
Callers said that vehicles that were driving in the southbound left turn land on West Lake Road were spinning their tires as they turned onto Tampa Road.

A deputy went to check it out and said the roadway was "as slippery as walking on ice," according to Barreda.
, the Pinellas County Transportation Dept. and the Pinellas County Hazardous Materials Response Team also responded to the spill.
The hazmat team determined that cooking oil or vegetable oil that had spilled onto the road. They speculated that the oil may have leaked from a truck.Β
SWS Environmental Services was called to clean the oil.Β A stretch of Tampa Road was closed throughout the afternoon while crews cleaned the spill.
No injuries were reported.
