New Market Showcases Local Vendors
A new farmer's market kicks off this Wednesday, May 16 on the grounds of the North Pinellas Historical Museum.

A Palm Harbor venue is hoping to help the economy by offering an additional opportunity for local vendors to sell food and crafts. A new farmer's market kicks off this Wednesday, May 16 on the grounds of the North Pinellas Historical Museum. The market will be open every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature food trucks, prepared foods for take home meals, organic foods, crafts, health supplements and other items.
"We are running a trial period through May with the hopes of organizing another year round market for the residents of Palm Harbor and to continue to support our Non-Profit Palm Harbor Museum," says Barb Haley of the North Pinellas Historical Museum.
Haley says the passage of Florida's Cottage Act in 2011 has permitted people to sell homemade products if they meet certain requirements and obtain proper permits.

"This has created opportunities for many creative people that have suffered job losses or layoffs during this bad economy to bring in or supplement incomes," says Haley.
The site of the new market is at the same location of the popular Cross Roads Farmer's Market which is held every Sunday on the grounds of the located at the intersection of Curlew and Belcher roads.

The property is like a park complete with picnic tables and features large old oak trees which provide ample shade. Admission to the North Pinellas Historical Museum is free.
