Palm Harbor Father Killed, Son Injured in Skyway Bridge Crash

A 37-year-old Palm Harbor man was thrown from his mini-van, after a rear tire blew out and the vehicle struck a guardrail. The driver's 12-year-old son was seriously hurt.

ST. PETERSBURG – A 37-year-old Palm Harbor man died Saturday night and his 12-year-old son was seriously injured, when a tire on their minivan blew out and the vehicle slammed into a guardrail on the Skyway Bridge.

Shane Chancy was driving north in the outside lane of the Skyway Bridge, near the 13.5 mile marker and rest area, when the tread came off the left rear tire, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The 1997 minivan veered to the outside shoulder, causing the driver to "over-correct" to the left, according to investigators.
