Palm Harbor Weekend Music Scene

New faces, regulars, and old favorites can be seen and heard this weekend at the various venues throughout Palm Harbor.

On Friday night  plays host to Flying High. This harmonic duo play a mixture of popular tunes and slightly more obscure covers. The band play two shows at Fairway Pizza this weekend, both Friday and Saturday night starting at 7 p.m. 

The  hosts its weekly open mic night on Friday starting at 8 p.m. All comers are welcome and the chilled-out intimate setting is a great place for musicians to hone their craft and for listeners to hear a variety of local talent. 

The  plays host to Elephant Gerald on Friday night. This three piece band features Jeremy Douglass on keyboard, Steve Turner on Drums and Ice on bass. The band plays a blend of jazz, funk and fusion creating a distinct and unique sound which they apply to classics and popular modern tunes as well. Everything from Miles Davis to Cole Porter gets an Elephant Gerald reworking. The show starts at 8 p.m.

The weekend looks set to be blue in Ozona with two great blues bands playing at. First up on Friday night is Blue Lightning who perform from 9 p.m. onwards. This four-piece band play a varied set of blues and rock classics from the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Allman Brothers Band, Pink Floyd and John Mayer.  

Rounding of Friday night is the John Barney Duo who return to Palm Harbor to play at . The popular two piece perform a wide variety of crowd favorites and cover everything from Jimmy Buffett to Sublime. The band take the stage at 9pm on Saturday night and play through to 1 a.m.

On Saturday at Fairway Pizza there is a charity event taking place, the 3rd Annual Bike Run for Lupus & 1st Annual Bike Run for Pancreatic Cancer. Live music comes courtesy of Flying High. For more information on the events visit www.fairwaypizza.com 

Taking to the patio stage at the Witch's Brew on Saturday is the ever popular acoustic guitarist Jack Poland. An accomplished acoustic player, Poland performs folk and rock tunes and classics from the 60’s and 70’s. The show starts 8pm and ends at 11 p.m. and will be shown on www.livestream.com/thewitchsbrew 

Also on Saturday night Mo Debly will be performing at Peggy O’Neill's. This one-of-a-kind duo will be playing their own unique takes on various classic tunes. The band consists of Mo on vocals and guitar and Debly who plays the violin. This unusual pairing cover everyone from Bob Marley to Led Zeppelin with interesting and impressive results. The show runs from 9 p.m. to 1 p.m.   

Those looking for something blues can find it at J.C. Craver's on Saturday night. Continuing the weekend of blues, The Backwater Blues Band come to Ozona on Saturday night at 8 p.m. This blues trio performs original music as well as some up-tempo covers of well known classics. Formed in 1997, Backwater Blues Band draws on a wide range of influences, in particular Texas, Chicago and New Orleans Blues.
