Parrot Heads Flock to Palm Harbor Party
The 10th annual Parrot Head Party in downtown Palm Harbor was a great success with a huge crowd in attendance on Saturday.
Parrot heads of all ages turned up in large numbers on Saturday afternoon to enjoy a day of live music, hot weather and cold drinks.
Jimmy Buffett fans were treated to a rousing performance from the Caribbean Chillers who performed many of Buffett’s biggest hits such as Margaritaville.
The energetic and entertaining band drew a large crowd and had everyone dancing well past dark. In addition to the main stage outside Peggy O’Neill’s, there was also live music at the Witch’s Brew with performances from Bonnie Bowers and Xtra-Mile.

Solo artist Bowers played a blend of reggae and folk which when matched with her soulful voice held her audience captivated. Her set included songs from her latest release The Best of All Possible World. “It’s an album of love songs and folk songs.
Something for you mind, feet and soul,” said Bowers. Many people showed up in costumes with elaborate and outrageous hats on display. Others took the term parrot head quite literally and showed up with real life parrots perched on their shoulders.

One bird that was very lucky to be at the event was Santana, a 6 year old moluccan cockatoo. Santana was rescued last year and after plenty of care and attention from his new owners, Debbie and Don Neher, she has recovered her health.
According to Old Palm Harbor Main Street Executive Director Robin Husbands-Cauchi, this year’s event saw one of the biggest ever crowds for the annual event. “This is a great turnout. It got busier earlier in the day this year,” said Husbands-Cauchi.
Local residents Duncan and Eileen McDonald have been to every Palm Harbor Parrot Head Party since the event began. “It’s lots of fun and there’s a great atmosphere,” said Duncan McDonald.
So what is it that keeps them coming back each year? “The music is great and it’s nice to see all these people we know,” added Eileen McDonald.
