State Troopers Increase Patrols During Holiday Weekend

State police are advising motorists not to act like turkeys but to drive responsibly during the busy Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

You should expect to see more traffic then usual, as Floridians make day trips and tourists visit our area for the long holiday weekend.

Because the Thanksgiving holiday typically produces a high volume of traffic, the Florida Highway Patrol will increase its presence Wednesday through Sunday. Β

All state troopers will patrol Florida’s high-volume roads, including in Palm Harbor and across Tampa Bay, during the five-day period. Β

The Florida Highway Patrol offers these tips to help people to travel safely:

1.) Let's state the obvious first: Don't speed, buckle up, drive responsibly.

2.) What's the rush?Β There's no need to rush, tail and cut off cars, and drive aggressively to reach the family get-together. The turkey and Grandma can wait.

3.) Skip that extra cup of eggnogΒ or the second chocolate martini before driving home.

4.) Do you really need to text, talk on the phone, eat and adjust the stereo while you drive? Pay attention to the road.

5.) Give your vehicle the once overΒ before you set out. Fill up the gas tank, check the oil, add washer to clean your windshield, and check tire pressure.

CallΒ *FHPΒ (*347) to report intoxicated or aggressive drivers, or if your vehicle breaks down and you need assistance. To request immediate emergency services, dialΒ 911.
