Staying Safe This Memorial Day Weekend

Various agencies will be working to keep you safe while you're out enjoying the holiday weekend.

If you plan on boating this weekend, the US Coast Guard wants you to remember the three "C"s of boating safety; Caution, Courtesy, and Common Sense.

Caution- Have a designated person serve as a "lookout" for possible boating hazards. Keep watch on the weather, have life jackets easily accessible, and watch out for manatees, dolphins and other marine life.

Courtesy- Be courteous of other boaters and always give a wide berth to other boats.

Common Sense- Make sure you have all required safety equipment, it's a good idea to have a marine VHF radio and know how to operate it, remember the "Fuel Rule of Thirds" make sure you have 1/3 tank of gas for the outbound trip, 1/3 for the return, and 1/3 for emergencies, also remember that when it comes to drinking alcohol and driving, the same rules apply whether your driving a boat or car.

If you plan on partying like a rock star, AAA Auto Club South is sponsoring a "Tow to Go" program. This service will be offered to all drivers, including those who are not AAA members.
