Students Drive Drunk Without Drinking Alcohol

Students at Palm Harbor Middle School wore goggles that simulated the feeling of being impaired while they pedaled tricycles for a lesson about driving drunk.

Students at recently got an idea of what it's like to drive drunk, without drinking one sip of alcohol.

Kids in the school's eighth-grade health class wore special goggles that simulated impairment while driving tricycles at the school's campus. The activity was meant to build awareness about how alcohol can affect the human body, according to the Pinellas County Schools website

Four tests were given that mimicked different blood-alcohol levels. One test was at twice the legal blood-alcohol level of .2 percent. Another test was at one and a half-times the legal level at 1.5 percent. Students also participated in a ball toss, a one-leg stand and walk-and-turn field sobriety tests, according to Pinellas County Schools.
