Deputies Discover Meth Lab in Palm Harbor Home

Investigators say they found a meth lab while responding to a domestic violence call involving a man suspected of throwing chemicals at a woman inside the home.

Pinellas County Sheriff's investigators say they discovered a meth lab at a Palm Harbor home while responding to an emergency 911 call.

Deputies responded to a domestic violence call at 2680 Peterborough Ct. around 3:42 Monday afternoon. They say Shiloh Sladon, 36, was throwing chemicals at his girlfriend inside the home. The incident became physical and Sladon also attempted to strangle the woman, according to Pinellas County Sheriff's Spokeswoman, Cecilia Barreda.

One of the deputies was sickened by a chemical odor during the initial investigation inside the home and was taken to a local hospital.Β

Deputies then discovered chemicals in the home that turned out to be a meth lab, according to Barreda.Β A crew was dispatched to clean up the lab. Barreda says there is no current danger to people living in the neighborhood.

"Certainly at this point, the situation is contained. However, anytime you have chemicals inside a home potentially a meth lab, it could certainly pose a danger particularly to people who live inside the home, but potentially to those who live in the area as well," she said.

The deputy who was taken to the hospital was treated and released. Sladon's 41 year-old girlfriend was not injured. The sheriff's office has not released her name.

Deputies arrested Sladon on one felony charge of domestic violence by strangulation. He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail just after midnight.

Patricia Schenselder, 65, lives nearby and says it is scary that this happened in her neighborhood. She often exercises by taking walks in the area.

"I've heard fights frequently in the past couple weeks. I heard a lot of throwing of things, him using fowl language," she said.

"Being a senior citizen, I didn't want to call anybody. I wanted to stay out of it."

Palm Harbor Fire Rescue crews also responded to the home Monday evening.Β

Deputies with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office narcotics unit are investigating the incident. No charges have been filed in connection with the meth lab.Β
