Tarpon Springs Clothing Store Moves to Palm Harbor
Beachworks Clothing & Gear specializes in outdoor gear of all types, shapes, and sizes. Formerly located on the sponge docks in Tarpon Springs, the owners are excited to start fresh in Palm Harbor.
You may have noticed that more businesses are opening up at the Park Avenue shopping complex on U.S. 19, just north of Nebraska Ave.
re-located to this complex from Tarpon Springs, and the owners are quite happy about the decision. “We love it here,” said co-owner Steve Lindhorst, “We like having a parking lot.”
A parking lot may seem like a mundane feature, but for a store formerly located at the Tarpon Springs sponge docks it makes a big difference, “People used to have to pay to park, or walk a long way, so it’s nice,” said Lindhorst. Beachworks Clothing & Gear is located behind the new Lee Roy Selmon’s, in a shopping area with plenty of free parking.

When you visit, not only will you find a wide variety of beachwear, bathing suits, hats, golfing and fishing clothes — you’ll probably be nuzzled by a morki (a mix between a yorki and maltese) named Brutus, who happens to be the star of a commercial for the store. Lindhorst laughs that the ad “created a monster," he says of the family pet, “People will come in asking if it’s the store with Brutus — so now we have to bring him in.”
Steve Lindhorst is a former mechanical engineer and professional angler, and his wife and co-owner Leah Lindhorst is involved in IT work when she’s not helping run the store or creating much of the jewelry they carry.

The store evolved from a hobby of sorts. “We both really care about the outdoors and active wear,” said Steve Lindhorst. This affection is illustrated in Lindhorst’s passion about all their products. “We can get you set up according to what you want to do. We understand these clothes,” he said.
Not only do they understand the clothes -from ventilation features to their reaction to water- the Lindhorsts understand that people cannot all neatly fit into the categories of small, medium and large. “We carry infant sizes to 5XL, we pride ourselves on a variety of styles and sizes,” said Lindhorst.
Each item is selected for the store for a reason. “We don’t pick just pretty things, we have things people need that happen to be good looking.”
Step into the store and you'll realize the Lindhorsts support local artisans. “We feature a lot of local art and products for sale,” said Lindhorst. A local photographer, shell artisan and hand-painted-bag artist are currently being featured in the front of the store — right next to the seating area, which the owners say is a unique feature. “A lot of stores don’t have anything like this, but we know that not everyone wants to shop — so we have magazines and everything,” said Lindhorst.
The Lindhorsts are pretty certain that if you stop by Beachworks to prepare for your next beach outing, being in the store is a bit of a beach outing in itself, “We really wanted to make it feel like the beach, so the decorations and colors all aim for that,” said Lindhorst.
Beachworks is located at 34302 US Hwy. 19 N Palm Harbor, FL 34684 and can be reached by calling (727) 787-7788.
