Trifecta

Coming out of Covid-19 with 73,869 Floridian deaths could have been a nightmare with the aging population of Florida but things were looking pretty positive for the GOP in the state. Then the last two weeks happened.

First, the veto of the legislature’s bi-partisan redistricting map being replaced with the governor’s gerrymandering map designed to gain seats….. For those not aware, this is in direct violation of a public mandate we the people passed on November 2, 2010, where Floridians overwhelmingly spoke out by passing Amendments 5 and 6 –with 63% of the vote, basically saying the re-districting must be fair and equal.
This veto and rushed process required all legislator to return for a special session to pass this re-districting bill in opposition of the public mandate.

Second, the administration banned 54 math books without transparency to parents. Basically saying, believe us these books are bad. To this day they refuse to show the specific pages that are offensive. Instead they show us four screen shots sent in by the “public” not even claiming these were in banned books. Why not show the examples/details and let parents decide? Allow parents, educators and residents to review their decision making process, it can only add validity to those decisions, but no, nothing.

Third , the Administration passes a petty retribution bill with the potential of crippling the two counties inclusive of Reedy Creek because a company had the audacity to publicly disagree with the administrations political policy. This ill conceived policy could cost Orange County taxpayers up to 25% more per year in property taxes and burden the county with an additional $2 Billion in debt. Many in the GOP news groups say this is a political and fiscal nightmare. Maybe the administration hopes it will disappear in the next news cycle. Good luck with that…..

These three major policy mistakes can cost the taxpayers millions of dollars for the State to defend in court.
Not to mention how the non-addressed issues of affordable housing, affordable rents, affordable insurance, needed improvements of our infrastructure and improving educational initiatives so Florida does not stay at the 50th ranking for best math scores in the country, could have been the focus.

What happened to the legislative process of public comment, fiscal analysis of proposed bill effects and true discourse of legislators? All part of the governmental process, instead of unilaterally pushing alleged illegal and possible financial crippling legislation though.

What a shame

PS. - We have not even talked about the “election police” bill… Even after the administration and ex-president claimed Florida elections to be the most secure and accurate in the country. So we need police to enforce more control? Or is it to appease one resident’s continued cry that the 2020 election was stolen, even though there is no proof almost 18 months later?
