Tropical Storm Debby: Flooding Closes Tampa Rd.

High water covered a section of Tampa Rd. Sunday afternoon, trapping one car.

Palm Harbor Fire Rescue has closed part of Tampa Rd. due to flooding from Tropical Storm Debby.Β The road is closed from Lake St. George Dr. to just east of Lake Valencia Blvd.Β 

High water made a stretch of Tampa Rd. look a lot like a river. One car tried to make its way through, but the driver had to abandon the car when it became stuck in water.

Palm Harbor Fire Rescue also says Alternate 19 N. is flooded at Tampa Rd.

Pinellas County officials say additional road flooding can be expected due to the ongoing heavy rainfallΒ from Tropical Storm Debby.Β The storm is moving to the northwest very slowly. Rain and winds should continue forΒ at least the next 24 hours.Β Additional flash flooding, tornado warnings or other urgent updates can happenΒ as Debby churns across the Gulf of Mexico.

  • Motorists are urged to stay off the roads and toΒ exercise extreme caution when driving on roads with standing water. Do notΒ attempt to drive through areas of water of unknown depth. Turn around, don'tΒ drown.
  • Due to the uncertain nature of the forecast, residents are urged to pay closeΒ attention to local news media for breaking updates on the situation.
